Mrs Shirley Court – Music Teacher

Teaching career

I taught for 12 years as a Primary School Teacher in two schools in Nottinghamshire. I then became the Vocal and Choral Specialist for Leicestershire and was appointed as the conductor of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra’s Junior and Senior Choruses . I became the Primary Music Advisor for Leicestershire Arts Service. I moved back to Cheshire 14 years ago and worked for the Cheshire Music Service which is how I first came to work at Lower Peover School. Seven Years ago I became the Director of the Halle Children’s Choir.

Why I teach?

I love working with children of all ages and abilities. I try to motivate and engage children in singing to unlock and encourage any musical talent. I have seen on numerous occasions how being involved in music can change and influence many lives. I love to hear children singing really well and enjoying themselves. (I would be far too noisy and laugh far too loudly to work in an office environment anyway !!)

Something you don’t know about me!

I move faster in water than I do on land and used to be a member of the Canoe Club!
