Year 6 2026 - 2027
Mr Goodwin
Year 6 Teacher
Hello and a very warm welcome to Year 6!
I am delighted to be your Year 6 teacher and cannot wait to begin what promises to be an exciting, rewarding and memorable year together. Year 6 is a very special year, full of opportunities for children to grow in confidence, independence and responsibility as they prepare for the exciting transition to secondary school.
Having previously taught Year 6 in other schools, I understand both the challenges and the wonderful experiences this important year brings. My aim is to ensure that every child feels supported, challenged and encouraged to achieve their very best while making lasting memories along the way.
We have a fantastic year planned, including our Year 6 residential to Maes-y-Nant Outdoor Education Centre in Wales in January 2027. This is always a real highlight of the year and provides children with opportunities to develop teamwork, resilience and independence.
As Year 6 pupils, the children will also become role models within our school community by acting as Reception buddies. This is a responsibility they take great pride in, helping our youngest pupils to settle into school life while developing their own leadership skills.
Our Year 6 Curriculum:
Throughout the year, we will enjoy a broad and engaging curriculum, with exciting topics in history and geography including:
- The United Kingdom
- South America
- A Story of Migration in Britain
- Trade and Economics in North America
Alongside these topics, we will continue to develop our skills in English, mathematics, science and the wider curriculum through practical, engaging and challenging learning experiences.
Our Year 6 timetable is fun packed with lots of familiar specialist teachers that you will have had in previous years.
PE: Our Year 6 PE lessons will be on a Tuesday morning and Friday afternoon. On these two days, you should come dressed in your school PE kit for the day and a warm top in winter.
Music: Our music session with Mr Stannard will be on a Thursday afternoon. We will spend most of this time preparing for the end of Year 6 performance and the various church festivals throughout the year.
RE: We will have Madam Carter for French on a Thursday afternoon where we will build on the amazing languages skills you have already gained.
Reading:
As reading is an essential tool to exercise your mind and increase knowledge, over the course of the year, I encourage you to read as often as possible. Please ensure each time you read it is logged in Boom reader. As in previous years, home readers will be changed on a Monday (or the first school day of the week) and Accelerated Reader books should be in school and on your desk every day. Mrs Lawrence will be coming to check who is ready to quiz in the school library on a regular basis.
