Year 4 Class - Homework 2025-26

Year 4 Homework Explained (2025-26):

In Year4, the homework will focus on reading, spelling and maths.

Reading:

The children are expected to read at home at least 5 times per week and this should be recorded on Boom Reader. The children will all be encouraged to engage with Accelerated Reader (chapter book) which should be read at home as well as brought into school EVERY day. Their Accelerated Reader book will live on their table during the school day and they will be given time during the register and after lunch to read their book in silence. The smaller (number banded books) will be changed on a Monday. These are thinner books that the children should be able to read quickly and fluenty. These books should be brought into school EVERY Monday (or the first school day of the week) to be changed by an adult.

Spelling:

The children will be given 8 spellings (5 spellings for some children who find 8 too many) to learn each week. These will be tested each Thursday morning in class. The weekly spellings will focus on spellings patterns as well as the Year 4 common expectation list which can be found online. Weekly spellings will be attached to the weekly email I send out to parents on a Friday as well as attached to the homework tab of the class page. There will be no paper copy of the spellings sent home and there is no expcetation for the children to do handwriting / sentence practice at home unless you feel this is benifiicial for them learning the spellings set. The spellings will also be practiced 3 times per week in class during the Pathways to Spell lessons.

Maths:

The focus for maths in Year 4 is for the children learning their multiplication and division recall facts. This will be done through the use of Times Tables Rockstars App. Your child will be given a login reminder sheet for this at the start of the Summer Term. There will be adhoc challenges and inter-school competitions set on TTRockstars to promote the learning of times tables.
